About The Monitor

We are a political and cultural magazine in Dublin dedicated to the stories and ideas you cannot look away from.

The Monitor was founded by Harper Alderson, James Ryan and Elisa Zito in 2026 as a magazine dedicated to high-quality commentary on politics and culture from a left-wing perspective.

The magazine aims to provide a much-needed space for thoughtful, original pieces within the hectic and bewildering mass of information in modern life. It is in this spirit that we maintain close contact with contributing writers throughout the publishing process and embed ourselves within Dublin’s cultural and intellectual life. Similarly, the work in the magazine balances academic quality and research with an accessible style guide and a close connection between theoretical ideas and everyday life.
